Patent Agents
The Institute maintains a register in which the persons admitted to practice before the Institute are recorded.
A person may be admitted to practice before the Institute as a Patent Agent if the person resides in, and is a citizen of, Kenya and:
- the person is an advocate practising in Kenya; or
- the person has a university degree in science or a technical field and is conversant with industrial property matters.
An application for admission to practice before the Institute is submitted using Form IP 40 together with application fee of Ksh 10,000.00.
Advocates are required to submit copies of
(a) degree certificate,
(b) National Identification card,
(c) letter/certificate of admission as an advocate and
(d) current practising certificate.
If you are not an advocate, you are required to submit evidence that you are conversant with industrial property matters.
A Patent Agent can request for amendment of the Register to change the name, address or other contact information by submitting a request using Form IP44 and paying the prescribed fee of Ksh. 2,000.
Persons admitted to practice before the Institute are required to pay annual fees to maintain their admission. The annual fees are payable by submitting Form IP 41 together with the prescribed fee of Ksh. 2,000. Advocates are also required to submit their current practising certificate.
